Elan Vytal and Matt Z are a inspired answer to traditional conceptions of what a dj and Violinist do. Comprised of a dj, mixing music and video, accompanied by a electric 6 string violin, the group brings a diverse array of musical backgrounds and influences to the stage. What results is a new sound that each member feels can both celebrate tradition and engage future audiences.
Dj/Producer Elan Vytal began his musical career in Oakland, CA 1995 with a politically charged hip-hop group, Rizing Sun Productions. He attended School of Audio Engineering in New York and began spinning at clubs and high-end social events, including exclusive parties for P diddy and Ashton Kutcher. Elan Vytal has played Carnegie Hall, Sydney Opera House, Brooklyn Museum, Lincoln Jazz Centre (Rose Theater), and has been hailed by the LA Times for his sound installations for the Studio Museum of Harlem (Pro Dreams). With Elan's versatility you might find him at any venue performing alongside great musucians expanding the definition of todays DJ.
Praised by the New York Times for his “outrageous fiddling,” Matthew Szemela is a violinist who crosses musical genres with ease.
